Abstract
Cette recherche vise à faire une étude comparative des politiques du Canada et des États-Unis pour venir en aide aux réfugiés vietnamiens et indochinois (également appelés Boat People) fuyant la montée des régimes communistes en Asie du Sud-Est après la fin de la guerre du Vietnam. Pour expliquer ces efforts, il sera question d’explorer les changements dans les politiques d’immigration et de réfugiés dans les décennies qui précèdent la crise des réfugiés indochinois. Par la suite, les politiques d’aide aux Boat People de 1975 à 1981 des États-Unis et du Canada et leurs impacts seront présentées puisque c’est à ce moment que la crise est à son plus fort avant d’être comparés afin d’en tirer des conclusions.
