Abstract
Megintilgangur verkefnisins var að skoða leiðtogahætti stjórnenda á Landspítala og hvað má læra af þeim. Skoðað var hvaða aðferðum stjórnendur beita við lausn viðfangsefna á Landspítala. Eigindleg rannsóknaraðferð var notuð þar sem fyrirbærafræði Vancouver-skólans var lögð til grundvallar. Tekin voru viðtöl við 12 einstaklinga, yfirlækna og deildarstjóra á Landspítala. Þátttakendur, einnig nefndir meðrannsakendur, teljast til sama stjórnunarlags innan stofnunarinnar. \nÍ kenningum um leiðtogahætti er leitast við að útskýra hvað mótar þá. Kenningar um atferli (aðgerðaforysta / umbreytingarforysta) og umhverfi (aðstæðukenning / óvissukenning) eru þar veigamiklar. Innan annarra kenninga er sjónum beint að persónulegum þáttum leiðtogans (ósvikin forysta / kenningin um mikilmennið / eiginleikakenningin). Fjallað er um líkön og matsaðferðir (leiðtogagrindin / LPC líkan Fiedler) sem að meta styrkleika stjórnenda. Sett er fram greiningarlíkan sem notað er til að greina þá þætti sem einkenna farsæla leiðtoga. \nLjóst er að starf millistjórnenda á Landspítala er margþætt. Niðurstöður benda til þess að stjórnunarstíll þeirra sé ósvikinn en mest áhersla er lögð á mannauðsmál og fer mestur tími vinnu þeirra í samskipti við starfsmenn. Millistjórnendur Landspítala leggja mikla áherslu á þróun skipulagsheildarinnar og að leiða hana í átt að sameiginlegum markmiðum. Lögð er áhersla á ná þeim markmiðum með góðum samskiptum og að mæta þörfum starfsmanna. Leiðtogar beita þar kænsku, innsæi og ígrundun til að draga fram styrkleika skipulagsheildarinnar og draga úr veikleikum hennar.
