Abstract
Officials at a county jail in Pennsylvania say they mistakenly kept an inmate locked up 17 months too long. Officials say new charges against another inmate with the same name were mistakenly duplicated and put in both inmates' files. A man stayed in a Pennsylvania jail for 17 months too long because of a clerical mistake.The Lancaster County commissioners tell LNP the inmate doesn't want to be identified, but has the same name as another inmate.He was supposed to be released in November of 2014 but wasn't released until April 2016.Apparently, new charges against another inmate with the same name were mistakenly duplicated and put in both inmates files.Warden Cheryl Steberger publicly acknowledged the mistake and has apologized.The jail's making changes, which include reviewing records of all inmates with the same last name.
