Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

»-- « In summary, the primary objective of project managers in the construction sector is to successfully complete a project while adhering to a predetermined budget. Nonetheless, it is common for construction projects to exceed their budgetary forecasts. This issue of cost overruns has been extensively studied in academic research. Despite thorough studies offering solutions to mitigate and control these overruns, the problem persists on a global scale. Current research highlights various causes of these overruns, including technical problems, excessive optimism, management shortcomings, and misleading strategic declarations. In this thesis, we conduct a systematic analysis of the literature to synthesize knowledge on cost overrun factors in construction projects. Using the online library resources of the Université du Québec à Rimouski (UQAR), we selected 121 articles for our study. Descriptive, univariate, and bivariate statistical analyses were conducted using the SPSS software (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences), in addition to qualitative and quantitative analyses to classify the overrun factors according to the type and category of project. A bibliometric analysis was also performed using VOSviewer and SCIMAT software on the co-occurrences of keywords. The thesis is divided into four chapters: the first chapter reviews the existing literature on cost overruns; the second chapter focuses on the issue and adopted methodology; the third chapter presents the general presentation results, and finally, the fourth chapter presents the results on the analysis of factors. The detailed analysis reveals that the main factors of cost overrun in the construction industry are the volatility of material prices, inadequate planning and scheduling, inaccurate cost estimates, frequent changes in design, and an unfavorable economic context. Although these factors vary between building construction projects and civil engineering works, the fluctuation of material prices emerges as a common and significant factor.. -- Mot(s) clé(s) en anglais : Cost overrun; Construction project ; Factors ; Systematic review ; North America. »--

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
