Abstract
L'any 1920, Pau Casals va fundar una nova orquestra a Barcelona amb el seu nom: l'Orquestra Pau Casals.Junt amb altres raons de carcter personal i profes sional, el seu objectiu era establir a la capital catalana una orquestra de primer ni vell, com les que havia conegut a tot el mn -especialment als Estats Units-en la seua carrera com a solista.Una de les seues preocupacions principals en la crea ci d'aquesta instituci musical va ser la configuraci del quartet de trompes.Aquest article argumenta la inquietud manifesta de Casals pels trompistes de l'orquestra, en un dels moments ms destacats de la histria de la msica al pas i en un temps de transformaci de l'instrument, tant per la recepci d'un nou re pertori simfnic -en qu destaquen les composicions de Richard Strauss-com per l'existncia de notables canvis organolgics per a adaptar la trompa a les exi gncies i necessitats d'aquestes noves obres.
