Abstract
Launched at Collingwood, Ont. on Apr. 23, 1893 by the Great Northern Transit Co., she was placed on the Georgian Bay route carrying passengers and package freight. She ran from Collingwood and Owen Sound to Manitoulin Island. The "Majestic" replaced the "Baltic" when she was built and was the flagship of the Great Northern Trans. Co. until the amalgamation with the North Shore Nav. Co. in 1898, when it became the Northern Nav. Co. She was then placed on the Lake Superior route to Port Arthur. She caught fire Dec. 15, 1915 at Pt. Edward, Ont. While being towed to Sarnia, the tow line broke and she touched the "Saronac" catching her on fire. In 1916 she was towed into Lake Huron and scuttled. She is shown here with the "Japan" and the "Northwest" (three smoke stacks) at Mackinac Island in 1898.
