Le Canada est un pays qui présente la particularité d’avoir la plus grande façade maritime au monde avec 202 080 km de côtes réparties entre l’Océan Atlantique et l’Océan Pacifique (CIA, 2005). 4,7 millions de canadiens, soit 13,5% de la population (StatCAN, 2021), habitent à moins de 100 kilomètres des littoraux. La population connait donc une sensibilité accrue aux risques côtiers et particulièrement aux inondations. Ces dernières sont dues aux ondes de tempêtes, un événement dont la fréquence et l’ampleur sont en constante augmentation à cause du changement climatique. Ces environnements prennent également une place importante dans les dynamiques culturelles et économiques du pays, il est donc important de les prendre en compte et de planifier ce risque. Ce stage prend place à la Commission des Services Régionaux du Sud-Est (CSRSE). Cette institution donne une importance particulière aux aléas d’inondation et d’érosion attribuables aux tempêtes côtières, phénomènes accentués par le changement climatique. Dans cette optique, ce mémoire s’intéresse à un modèle de simulation des ondes de tempêtes et prend place dans la communauté de Pointe-du-Chêne.Ce modèle permet, grâce à un certain nombre de paramètres, de prédire l’emprise et les dégâts attendue pour une inondation. Pour ce faire, l’utilisateur doit fournir au modèle un certain nombre d’entités géographiques, servant à l’atténuation des vagues, et un certain nombre de paramètres, représentant la tempête simulée. Le fonctionnement précis du modèle et de l’onde de tempête sont détaillés dans la partie méthodologie de ce mémoire.
