Abstract
Rarement une génération aura autant fait parler d’elle que celle des baby-boomers. Adolescents, ils ont aspiré à la liberté à travers l’autonomie résidentielle qui leur permettait d’échapper aux normes familiales. Jeunes adultes, ils ont introduit de nouvelles façons de vivre en couple (cohabitations hors mariage, familles recomposées, semi-cohabitation…). Retraités, ils s’érigent souvent en tant que pivot familial, au sein d’une famille faite de quatre générations, fréquemment reconfigurée, et dans laquelle s’insèrent de nouvelles figures (beaux-enfants, beaux petits-enfants… beaux grands-parents). Ce livre jette un éclairage nouveau sur le baby-boom au Québec et en France, non pas en regard des défis économiques et sociaux liés à cette masse démographique, mais dans une perspective sociologique centrée sur les individus. Démographes, sociologues, historiens, anthropologues et travailleurs sociaux s’intéressèrent à divers aspects relatifs à l’avancée en âge des baby-boomers, dont la transformation des parcours familiaux et l’inscription des parcours de vie dans le temps long des familles, des grands-parents jusqu’aux petits-enfants. Car, s’il est un domaine de la vie sociale qui a été profondément transformé par cette génération, c’est bien la famille et ses différentes manières de faire et d’être.
