Chicago Tribune says the bill calls for a 125-dollar fine instead of court or jail time for those caught with up to a half ounce of weed -- or enough to make about 25 joints. Supporters of the bill, even those who think smoking weed is wrong, say it'll keep court costs down and people out of jail. The decriminalization bill's already passed in the House, but it won't head to Gov. Rauner's desk until some of the language is cleaned up. Lawmakers say the bill's meant to bring some uniformity to Illinois' patchwork marijuana laws. Now, cities like Chicago, where laws're already in place won't change. In Chicago if you get caught with up to about a half ounce of weed you get popped with a 500 dollars fine. Gov. Rauner says he's trying to reduce the prison population by a quarter over the next decade. Says he'll give the bill careful consideration.
