Abstract
Cette étude utilise les données de l’Enquête auprès des peuples autochtones de 2012 pour examiner les relations entre la maternité précoce et l’éducation chez les Premières Nations, les Métisses et les Inuites au Canada. Les objectifs consistent d’une part à établir le calendrier des premières naissances pour chacun des groupes d’identité autochtone, puis de déterminer l’impact de la naissance d’un premier enfant avant l’âge de 18 ans sur le décrochage scolaire; l’obtention d’un diplôme secondaire ou une équivalence; et la poursuite d’études postsecondaires. Les principaux résultats indiquent que la maternité précoce est significativement associée à une plus forte probabilité d’avoir abandonné les études au secondaire ainsi qu’à une plus faible probabilité d’avoir ultimement obtenu un diplôme ou une équivalence d’études secondaires.
