Abstract
The general aim of this PhD project is to enhance coach effectiveness by creating a fine-grained perspective on coach behavior using a context-specific approach. We will determine if and how athletes' expectations influence the perception and effectiveness of coach behavior. In addition, to get a valid overview on both between and within-person variability of coach behavior, we will develop a short questionnaire based on the circumplex model for coach behavior (Delrue et al. 2019) to enable dynamic assesments of coach behavior. This questionnaire will ultimatly be used to investigate antecedents for coaching behavior and in particular shifts to domineering and abandoning coach behavior based on both athlete and coach perspectives.
