Abstract
ORANGE, CA -According to a survey of purchasing managers, the California manufacturing economy is expected to grow at a slightly lower pace in the first quarter of 2017 compared to the fourth quarter of 2016.The California Composite Index, measuring overall manufacturing activity, decreased from 59.7 in the fourth quarter of 2016 to 58.2 in the first quarter of 2017, indicating expansion but at a slower pace.This decline in the growth rate follows three quarterly increases in the index.Production, inventories of purchased materials, new orders and employment are expected to grow at a lower growth rate, while commodity prices are expected to rise at a faster rate.Supplier deliveries are expected to be slower in the first quarter of 2017.
