A New Rhizoctonia Fungus on Turfgrass in Ontario

Abstract
Rhizoctonia is the genus of a fungal species that can infect plants. This paper looks at four species of Rhizoctonia. They are R. solania which causes brown patches, R. cerealis which causes yellow spots, and R. zeae and R. oryzae. All the Rhizoctonia species have similar characteristics under a microscope including right-angle branching of the hyphae. More details are given in the paper about the individual characteristics such as identification and temperature ranges. The paper continues with information about the 2004 outbreak of Rhizoctonia in Ontario as well as the 2005 outbreak. Concluding with methods on how to control outbreaks and how to further prevent them.
