Abstract
Este trabalho de conclusão aborda as políticas de preservação e conservação adotadas pela Biblioteca La Salle, com vistas para o acervo de coleções especiais da Universidade La Salle. Introduz a importância das bibliotecas universitárias no processo de preservação das obras raras e sua contribuição para o desenvolvimento de acervos especiais. Discute os conceitos de obra rara e os critérios universais de raridade bibliográfica propostos por Ana Virginia Pinheiro. Bem como a formação de acervos raros em bibliotecas universitárias e o desenvolvimento do profissional bibliotecário para atuar na biblioteconomia de livros raros e de coleções especiais. Apresenta os conceitos de preservação e conservação e o Canadian Conservation Institute como modelo de gerenciamento de riscos, com base nos 10 agentes de deterioração. Faz a análise descritiva, a partir de coleta de dados, a situação atual das Coleções Especiais Unilasalle, por meio de um estudo de caso. Por fim, sugere a construção de políticas de preservação e conservação e salienta a importância da salvaguarda desses acervos para a pesquisa e para a memória institucional.
