Abstract
Il libro, che raccoglie in una cornice di pensiero unitaria formulata dai curatori, i saggi di alcuni emeriti studiosi, storici e urbanisti (Emanuela Belfiore, Carla Benocci, Alberta Campitelli, Alessandro Cremona, Umberto De Martino, Marcello Fagiolo, Piero Maria Lugli), ritesse le fila del lungo percorso di idee e di realizzazioni del verde urbano a Roma dall’antichità ai giorni nostri. La storiografia sul verde è infatti una storia interrotta che si è esaurita per lo più nello studio delle splendide realizzazioni del passato, tralasciando le relazioni con il tessuto urbano e ignorando sistematicamente l’ultimo secolo. Il libro cerca dunque di riunire le vicende del verde in una sintesi generale, legandole alla città, al contesto in cui sono state concepite e alle idee che le hanno generate. Chiarire tutto ciò appare fondamentale per comprendere le fratture che si sono create tra il verde storico e quello moderno e contemporaneo e per aiutare a delineare il ruolo che tutto il sistema del verde può assumere nella città attuale: nella qualificazione della forma urbana e nella ricomposizione degli equilibri ambientali.
