Cette troisième édition est augmentée d'une importante partie consacrée à la criminalistique. Elle prend en compte toutes les techniques scientifiques les plus évoluées en matière de recherche de la preuve, de la mise en évidence des traces et indices. La génétique est mise à jour, de même que la toxicologie clinique et médico-légale. Les techniques anthropologiques sont détaillées et enrichies d'importants chapitres consacrés à la triste actualité du terrorisme, des migrants, etc. L'ostéologie est complétée d'un chapitre de pathologie de maladies infectieuses se rapportant à l'os, de traumatologie.Sont également détaillés, les aspects psychopathologiques des diverses formes de violence.La partie historique détaille non seulement l'évolution de la médecine légale à travers les âges, mais également celle de la balistique, de la criminalistique et des pandémies, jusqu'à l'actualité de ces dernières années.Plus de 150 collaboratrices et collaborateurs issus de multiples horizons et pays (France, Suisse, Belgique, Italie, Portugal, Canada, République Démocratique du Congo, pays du Maghreb, Nouvelle-Zélande, Australie, Etats-Unis, ont participé activement à cette monumentale mise à jour.
