Abstract
Leila Zelli questionne la construction des identités moyen-orientales en réinterprétant ses images médiatiques. Elle s’interroge sur l’idée de « Moyen-Orient », sur les identités culturelles que véhiculent les médias, sur nos imaginations et représentations collectives de « l’Autre », spécifiquement des gens vivant en 2017–2018 dans les zones de conflits générés par le groupe armé État islamique. Par un travail de recadrage et d’installation de bandes vidéo issues des grands médias et diffusées sur les réseaux sociaux, Leila Zelli opte pour une approche visuelle décalée par rapport aux stratégies habituelles de représentation de l’Autre, de manière à forcer l’attention sur des instantanés de vie et des « hors-champs », qui révèlent ses stéréotypes et les a priori que nous projetons sur ce qui nous est loin, hors de vue et étranger. Cette posture artistique est politique. Se basant sur une mise en contexte détaillée d’une expérience personnelle d’altérité et de résilience, elle appelle ouvertement à la considération de la singularité́ de chaque vie humaine.
