La progression géographique de la viniculture et de la production de vin au Québec est en train d’atteindre des espaces réputés froids comme la région du Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean. Depuis surtout une vingtaine d’années, des propriétaires de vigne se sont installés jusqu’à constituer une demi-douzaine de vignobles d’importance, sans compter les personnes qui ne possèdent que quelques plants. L’analyse qui a été réalisée trace le premier portrait des activités viticoles et vinicoles dans la région. À la suite d’un retour historique et d’un rappel des conditions de production, une analyse de 42 entités indique notamment que les abords du lac Saint-Jean concentrent une bonne partie des activités et que les rives du Saguenay ne sont pas en reste. On ne compte pas moins de 36 600 plants et l’on met sur le marché des milliers de bouteilles qui remportent même des prix à l’étranger. La vigne est en plein essor et l’avenir est prometteur.
