Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

Bed blending operations have been used in the iron ore, coal and cement industry for decades to control the fluctuations of grades and contaminants.A bed blending operation uses a structured approach to construct stockpiles to reduce the variance of the reclaimed product.Smelters, coal fired power plants and cement plants have a narrow tolerance for the raw materials being fed into their systems. The stacking method as well as the reclaiming method used in bed blending operations determine how effective the blending is.One of the criterion used to determine the effectiveness of the blending operations is the variance reduction ratio analysis (VRR) which is used in this thesis. For given stockpile configuration and equipment characteristics, a program calculation VRR has been coded in MATLAB.Furthermore, multivariate characteristics of ore can be considered. The material feed from each excavation area in a mining operation tends to be serial correlated as material variability between two points within a relatively small distance is limited.Using the VRR of each variable in combination with principle component analysis (PCA) the optimal number of passes can be determined. The number of passes required can be used to determine the final required size of the stockpile and associated equipment. An indoor stockpile using a gantry stacker system in combination with a drum reclaimer is used to complete an analysis of the financial cost of a bed blending operation. The results of this thesis show that the economic benefit required to offset the cost of a bed blending operation is a small percentage of the iron ore commodity pricing. When looking at the production tonnages of large mines however, small percentage numbers of up to 2% can be a large impact on cash flow of organizations. The proposed model can be applied to different application with small adjustments. To see the performance of the proposed approach, a case study on iron ore using Fe, SiO2, Al2O3 and CaO was carried out and the results showed that this approach can find trade-off between cost and the required homogenization level.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
