Abstract
In 1922 the Historic Landmarks Association of Canada, founded in 1907 to plan Quebec’s tercentenary celebrations and to promote commemoration of the country’s historic sites, renamed itself the Canadian Historical Association / Société historique du Canada. The new association expanded the parent\nsociety’s mandate to foster the study of history, which over time became its principal concern. The CHA’s stated goal was the\n“encouragement of historical research and of an intelligent public interest in the history of our country, as well as the co-ordination of the efforts of provincial and local historical societies throughout the country”.
