Abstract
El turismo es una actividad social expuesta a riesgos y amenazas que, muchas veces, perjudican su desarrollo. Por este motivo, la seguridad cumple un rol fundamental en el turismo, al ser un factor de vital importancia para el desenvolvimiento de la actividad. El terrorismo es una de las amenazas que afectan al turismo desde hace varios años. A lo largo de la historia, diversos sitios turísticos han sido el objetivo de grandes actos terroristas, como el atentado del 11-S. Este hecho marcó un antes y un después en materia de turismo, seguridad internacional y geopolítica mundial. Actualmente, la seguridad posee un papel imprescindible en la actividad turística y ocupa uno de los primeros lugares en las agendas geopolíticas de los países. El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo general analizar las medidas de seguridad tomadas por el gobierno de Estados Unidos luego del 11-S y su influencia sobre los flujos turísticos estadounidenses. Para llevar a cabo esta investigación, se utiliza una metodología cualitativa de análisis documental mediante la cual se concluye que, efectivamente, las medidas de seguridad implementadas luego del atentado tuvieron una notoria influencia sobre los flujos turísticos estadounidenses. A partir de lo investigado y de los resultados alcanzados, esta tesis podría despertar nuevos interrogantes científicos y ser un disparador para el desarrollo de futuras líneas de investigación en esta disciplina.
