Abstract
In this DJ set, Jillian Fulton-Melanson mixes tracks from Kamal Hallou’s new album (under his artist moniker Hedon), Anaphrodisia (Low Noise Productions 2021), using samples from a recent interview to add context to the album’s creation. Through Fulton-Melanson’s careful selection of non-linear moments from their conversation, she aims for the listener to gain an understanding of Hallou’s migration experience. In these samples, Hallou discusses how migrating from Rabat, Morocco to Montreal, Quebec has changed the way he identifies with his Moroccan and Amazigh roots and influenced his search to find a suitable sonic texture to express his multifaceted identity.
