Abstract
De son temps Viktor Ullmann (1898-1944) était un compositeur qui avait du succès et était bien établi, mais il reste largement inconnu. Autrichien d’origine juive, il a été réduit au silence à la suite de son incarcération dans le camp de transit et ghetto à Terezín, et de sa mort ultérieure à Auschwitz. Écrites pendant sa détention, les sonates numéro 5, 6 et 7 pour piano illustrent son langage musical - une intégration particulière de tonalité et d’atonalité dotée des éléments de tradition et de modernité. Sa formation avait été étroitement associée à Arnold Schoenberg et à la deuxième école viennoise, mais pour sa musique Ullmann s’est éloigné consciemment d’une absence totale de tonalité. Cette thèse servira à mettre en lumière la valeur et la pertinence des sonates tardives pour piano d’Ullmann, des oeuvres uniques qui devraient apporter des ajouts intéressants au paysage du répertoire pour piano solo du XXe siècle.
