Abstract
ernment under Stephen Harper has ruled in a top-down manner unprecedented in Canadian politics. It has actively undermined civil society groups, with liberal use of police repression. And, ultimately, it has contributed more than any Canadian government in recent memory to undermining the republican spirit Taylor argues is essential to healthy democracy.Taylor's reflections on the backbone of a healthy democracy were delivered to dissidents organized against an openly terrorist neoliberal regime. But the more polite, subtle violence of Canada's slide from being a beacon of democracy to domestic authoritarianism and international obstructionism makes Taylor's arguments highly topical, and grist for self-reflection.For these reasons I enthusiastically recommend Democracia Republicana / Republican Democracy, not as an occasional text or a curiosity but rather as an integral text in Taylor's corpus and an excellent point of departure for thinking the state of democracy today from within a liberal framework.

Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
