Cette étude sur la contribution acadienne au peuplement du Québec s'inscrit dans le prolongement d'un projet de recherche entrepris par les chercheurs du GRIG (Groupe de recherche interdisciplinaire en démographie et épidémiologie génétique), qui vise à mesurer la formation et la structuration des bassins génétiques régionaux de la population québécoise. Le but de cette étude est d'identifier les fondateurs acadiens ayant laissé une descendance dans la population québécoise contemporaine et de mesurer leur contribution démographique et génétique aux populations de 26 régions du Québec. Ces fondateurs ont été identifiés à partir de 2340 généalogies ascendantes provenant du fichier de population BALSAC-RETRO. Les résultats obtenus montrent que les fondateurs acadiens, ou leurs descendants, ont laissé des traces dans toutes les régions du Québec. De 46% à 100% des sujets, selon la région, ont au moins un fondateur acadien dans leur généalogie. La plupart des fondateurs (94%) ont contribué au pool génique de 5 régions ou moins. Leur contribution génétique est cependant plus marquée dans les régions de l'est du Québec, particulièrement aux Îles-de-la-Madeleine, en Gaspésie et sur la Côte-Nord. \n
