Abstract
A descriptive and transversal study has been made in the new born babies and fetus which were diagnosed with a congenital defect of the neural tube. The starting poiunt of this research was the Gynecological Obstetric Hospital ´´Fe del Valle Ramos´´placed in Manzanillo, Granma province. The new born babies and fetus have been notified in the stadistie registers RECUMAC (Cuban register of congenital malformation) and RECUPREMAC (Pre-natal cuban register of congenital malformation)in a year period, from January 2017 to January 2018. The general objetive was to describe the congenital defect of the neural tube in the new born babies and fetus. Among them there were nembered 27hich is the object of study. Diverse variables were taken into account srech as the mothers´ origen, sex of the new born babies and fetus, gestation period and varieties of defect of the neural tube. The procedures and analysis of the information were accomplished accordaing tothe frequency study and in percentage terms. The municipality of Manzanillo registered a great number of cases, here prenailed anencephalia in female cases, in the second quarter appeared a great number of diagnosed difects, because of anencephalia and the occipital meningocele. The type of defect of the neural tube was the open one.
