Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

Pero a pesar de poseer casi todos ellos estudios universitarios, son muy pocos los que han recibido una formación específica en gestión de webs, y ésta tan solo ha consistido en cursos.\nThe development and advancement of the Internet in recent years has given a real opportunity to cultural institutions in order to be adapted to the changes in the communication model which is brought about by the evolution of web pages. These electronic resources have become a key tool for the dissemination of the broad heritage by the museums’ part that guards it. Therefore, and with the purpose of knowing the characteristics that present and of considering different proposals for improvement so that, ultimately, the dissemination of the Maritime and Naval Heritage is as correct as possible, this doctoral thesis analyzes the web sites of the marine and naval museums of Spanish and English speaking areas.\n\nFirstly, due to the existence of a wide conceptual gap, the terms "maritime museum", "naval museum", "ship museum" and "museum lighthouse" are terminologically defined, since they are fundamental pillars for the knowledge of this type of cultural institutions, in the broad sense of the word.\n\nThis terminological clarification is necessary to carry out the elaboration and structuring of an exhaustive directory composed of the maritime and naval museums of the Spanish and English-speaking world (annex C), which is discussed in this paper. With respect to this tool, it should be emphasized that it is an instrument that has not been available until now and is useful not only for this thesis, but also for any user or researcher who has an interest in the subject and / or needs to have access to the funds of these institutions to conduct an investigation. \n\nIn relation to this directory, it is verified that the countries with the most maritime and naval museums in the English-speaking world are the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada. On the other hand, in the Spanish-speaking world, these institutions are concentrated in Spain, Chile and Mexico. Also, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and Spain are the nations with a web page in this tool that represent this type of cultural institutions.\n\nOn the other hand, we analyze web sites that the cultural institutions of the aforementioned typology manage, and for this purpose, ad hoc an evaluation tool integrated by 122 elements is elaborated, and in respect of which we can highlight the absence of another so optimized, updated (according to published literature) and easy to use in the market.\n\nAfter its implementation, it is observed that the creation of web pages related to these cultural centres is still insufficient in the Hispanic area, due to the fact that more than half of the museums of the typologies mentioned above do not have this type of tools. However, in the English-speaking space, most do.\n\nWith regard to the web analysis, there is a wide disparity in the content that is provided, being the English-speaking world websites the most complete ones. However, from a general perspective, the websites that have been studied fulfill many of the elements evaluated. In particular, Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States respectively host the cultural institutions of the aforementioned typologies that manage the most complete web pages of both geographic areas studied. \nIn relation to the geographic and linguistic analyzed areas, it should be noted that the web pages of these places share an adequate management of the parameter "usability". However, while Hispanic museums make better use of the accessi
