Abstract

ABSTRACT: Unit operations require properly defined methods for their design. For example, the agitation power consumption is a key design element in mixing operations. To characterize the energy requirements of industrial agitators, we need to determine the power number. Algebraic correlations exist to correlate this dimensionless number to fluid properties and geometrical characteristics of the agitator. These correlations are constructed by establishing a regression on experimental data. Another example is the design of reactors, which are at the core of chemical processes. To determine the residence time of batch reactors or the volume of continuous reactors, differential equations exist. These equations depend on reaction kinetics. Once again, regression on experimental data is required to construct such equations. However, power number correlations have nonlinear dependencies with the Reynolds number and the agitator geometry. Chemical kinetics also exhibit nonlinear dependencies with species concentration and temperature. To quantify these complex relationships, researchers develop deep learning algorithms to overcome limitations of current numerical methods. Therefore, the project aims to study the use of neural networks to address challenges encountered in chemical engineering. The project is divided into two parts. Firstly, an artificial neural network (ANN) is established to create a hypothetical function between the power number, the Reynolds number, and geometric characteristics of mixers. Secondly, a physics-informed neural network (PINN) is developed to predict the reaction kinetics of biodiesel production in a microwave reactor. In both cases, this thesis reviews the methodology behind data generation, the development of network architectures, and ultimately, the performance of predictions following their training.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
