Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

\n \nThis master's thesis aims to establish a comparison of the different methods to evaluate the fatigue limit state (FLS) of bridges incorporating aluminum decks on steel girders. The St-Ambroise bridge, which is the first bridge with an Aluminum deck in Canada is used as a reference. Few studies are currently available on the modelling techniques for Aluminum deck. An analysis of the details of the St-Ambroise bridge prone to fatigue is carried out. A number of details, like the connectors between the deck and the girders are excluded from the analyses because their design is flawed as they produce high stress concentration in the welds. The Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code does not specify S-N curves for friction stir welding. A review of the literature by the author made it possible to identify better adapted S-N curves. The curves available in Chapter 17 of the Canadian standard are safe for Aluminum friction stir welds. Numerical simulations and calculations based on beam theory are made. A comparative study between solid type and shell type elements is carried out. Shell elements can be used for the evaluation and design of bridges incorporating aluminum decks. Shell elements tend to slightly underestimate stresses and displacements. Simplified methods using the principles of mechanics of materials (ex. beam theory) are dependent on an effective width. These methods can be used in obtaining an order of magnitude and to validate finite element models but should not be used for design and evaluation of the fatigue limit state. A numerical model of the St-Ambroise bridge, incorporating the results of the comparative study between solid type and shell type, is analyzed and compared to the results of the load test carried out by the MTQ on actual bridge. The comparison of the calculation methods and the proposed modelling techniques provide a calculation basis for future projects and provide tools to engineers.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
