La laparoscopie est une technique chirurgicale peu invasive permettant d'observer directement l'intérieur de la cavité abdominale. Elle connait un essor considérable en médecine vétérinaire et de nombreuses techniques chirurgicales sont décrites et utilisées chez les carnivores domestiques, les équidés et les bovins. Cependant, chez la vache, il n'existe actuellement, dans la littérature, aucune description laparoscopique de certains organes ventraux tels que la vésicule biliaire, le duodénum cranial ou la jonction pylore-duodénum, sites privilégiés d'obstruction. Pour remédier à ce manque, une nouvelle technique laparoscopique a été développée à la Faculté de Médecine Vétérinaire de Saint-Hyacinthe (Québec, Canada) afin de visualiser les organes extra-omentaux sur des vaches positionnées en décubitus latéral gauche. Six vaches taries ont subi une laparoscopie en position debout puis en décubitus latéral gauche à partir de 3 sites situés sur le flanc droit. Les organes observés ont été référencés et les sites d'insertion et les constantes vitales contrôlés. Un suivi des sites d'insertion et de l'état général des animaux a été réalisé durant les deux semaines suivant l'intervention. Aucune complication n'a été relevée durant la procédure concernant l'insertion des trocarts et les constantes vitales. Si la majorité des organes a pu être visualisée quel que soit l'abord laparoscopique, le duodénum cranial et la jonction pylore-duodénum ont été systématiquement observés sur la vache placée en décubitus latéral. Cependant, aucune différence notable n'a été relevée quant à l'observation de la vésicule biliaire durant chacune des phases. Enfin, le suivi des animaux n'a mis en évidence aucune complication postchirurgicale. Ainsi, la technique laparoscopique développée s'est révélée être une alternative fonctionnelle et sécuritaire à la laparotomie exploratrice et les résultats satisfaisants permettent d'envisager, dans le futur, différentes applications.
