Après avoir considéré les forêts comme une source de matière première quasi inépuisable pendant des décennies, le Canada s'est lancé dans une approche durable au début des années 1990. Ce changement de cap a de quoi surprendre. Voilà que soudainement un des pays phares d'une vision très industrielle des forêts, s'érige en bon élève voire en pionnier d'une politique forestière qui s'inscrit en total contrepoint de ce qui s'y est fait jusqu'alors.
