Generalidades de la producción artesanal del cantón de Pococí: Fortalezas y debilidades

Abstract
Este artículo pretende una aproximación preliminar que permitirá determinar el perfil que poseen los artesanos ligados al sector turístico, ubicados en el cantón de Pococí, provincia de Limón, Costa Rica. El objetivo es conocer sus fortalezas y debilidades, así como incidir en su formación técnica, mediante una estrategia que les permita dinamizar sus destrezas para insertarse con mayor facilidad en la cadena de valor del sector turístico. Para ello se elaboró una encuesta semi estructurada que se aplicó en los meses de julio y agosto de 2010 a un total de 33 artesanos. Los principales resultados de este estudio se refieren al nivel educativo y su incidencia en la organización del gremio, así mismo a la necesidad, por parte de los artesanos, de un mayor conocimiento de los canales de comercialización para potenciar el producto artesanal. El artículo presenta un primer apartado en el cual se define el concepto de artesano, su encadenamiento con la actividad turística y la metodología utilizada. Un segundo apartado analiza los resultados de la información recolectada y por último se presentan las conclusiones.
