Since their discovery in 1950-52, the two figured capitals actually kept in the Museo Archelogico F.Ribezzo in Brindisi have been the subject of many studies. no agreement has been so far reached as to their dating and the identification of the heads. a cross-over focus on their stylistic characters and historical background as well as of the local myths supports a dating to the third quarter of the II centry B.C. and suggest the heads belong to eigth deities of the Dionysos circle, arranged in couples. The capitals most likely come from a temple on the arx; the role of this temple was accomplish the civic function of poliadism, strictly tied to the rituals enacting the achievement of adult age. So, the themes of fire and wine they represent hint at the daily as well political activities of a tigth community of citizens. Finally, in an age of political transition, the two-faced relgious feelig of this community of citizens. Finally, in a age of political transition, the two-faced religous feeling of this Graeco-Roman community is reflected in the locally well attested adoption of Greek deities into the Roman religion.
