Abstract
In Quebec, the Act respecting Health Services and Social Services provides that a physician has the freedom to accept or refuse to enter into a professional relationship with a patient. However, several other legislative and deontological provisions strictly limit that freedom. In the present essay, we set out the sources of the duty to treat of the physician and the juridical nature of that duty. Possible exceptions are then analyzed in order to describe the reasons that can be invoked in cases where the physician wishes to end a professional relationship with the patient.
