Abstract
Les orthopédagogues ont le mandat d'intervenir auprès des élèves en difficulté en français et en mathématiques. Or, nous remarquions que leurs interventions touchaient très peu les mathématiques, malgré l'importance de cette matière. Quatre représentations sociales, déterminées par l'analyse de 42 questionnaires et de 6 entrevues, permettent aux orthopédagogues de justifier le fait qu'elles interviennent peu en mathématiques: (1) le français est à la base de toutes les autres matières; (2) les mathématiques sont un ensemble de savoirs et de techniques qu'on peut mettre en application dans des résolutions de problèmes pour lesquels la lecture est nécessaire; (3) les interventions en résolution de problèmes doivent passer par des interventions sur les stratégies de lectures et sur certains savoirs mathématiques; (4) les orthopédagogues ont le sentiment d'être peu outillées et peu formées pour intervenir en mathématiques alors qu'elles se sentent bien outillées et bien formées en français.
