Abstract
En 1970, les Québécois se retrouvent pour la première fois dans des élections où se présente un parti souverainiste. Durant les années 1970, l'option souverainiste accroît sa popularité dans l'électorat. Au même moment, le Parti libéral du Canada reste le favori des Québécois. Sur cette base, on peut dire que ces derniers ont une attitude assez ambiguë relativement à leur choix - si ce n'est à leur avenir - politique. En effet, ils appuient un parti fédéraliste réputé centralisateur sur la scène fédérale et un parti souverainiste prônant la sécession sur la scène provinciale ! Dans le présent travail, on observe le comportement électoral des Québécois durant la période 1970 et 1994. La question suivante, simplement énoncée mais on ne peut plus difficile à résoudre, est au centre de nos préoccupations : les Québécois sont-ils souverainistes ? Pour avancer dans notre compréhension des choses, nous avons analysé plusieurs campagnes électorales en fouillant les résultats de sondages et en nous appuyant sur une documentation composée principalement d'articles de journaux, mais aussi de monographies et d'études.
