Abstract
Durante las primeras décadas del siglo XIX en las provincias de Sonora, Ostimuri y Sinaloa se dio una serie de transformaciones a consecuencia de los cambios económicos y políticos sufridos en Nueva España por el desarrollo de los procesos históricos regionales —consolidación de elites regionales, variaciones en la propiedad de la tierra, pugnas entre los grupos sociales y guerra de independencia—, que trajeron como resultado modificaciones en los circuitos mercantiles y en el control del poder político local. Los pueblos indios de aquellas regiones no fueron ajenos a estos cambios. Sin duda alguna, lo que más afectó a estos grupos fue el progreso material de los propietarios españoles establecidos en las provincias y la expulsión de los jesuitas. El autor analiza cómo ambos acontecimientos se combinaron y modificaron las estructuras de las sociedades indígenas, aunque de diferentes maneras y en distintos tiempos.
