Au Québec, plusieurs milieux ruraux parviennent à affronter la dévitalisation grâce à des initiatives locales innovantes. Étant donné la littérature abondante sur l’importance de l’initiative locale pour mener à bien une transition socioécologique, cette recherche explore le lien entre ce type d’initiative comme réponse à la dévitalisation et la transition socioécologique. Pour ce faire, nous avons mené quinze entretiens semi-dirigés afin d’étudier trois initiatives visant à contrer la dévitalisation, à travers le prisme de la transition socioécologique. Les territoires étudiés participent aux Ateliers des savoirs partagés 2.0, une démarche visant à partager les connaissances entre acteurs terrain et chercheurs, ainsi qu’entre les territoires. La question principale de cette recherche est la suivante : Comment l’initiative locale mise en place dans un processus de développement territorial en milieu rural peut-elle permettre d’initier ou de soutenir la transition socioécologique ? Afin d’identifier les bénéfices écologiques des initiatives, nous avons utilisé des thématiques d’analyse distinctes pour chacune d’elles. Ainsi, nous avons étudié l’agroécologie pour le Plan de développement d’une communauté nourricière de Saint-Camille, le tourisme durable/régénératif pour l’initiative de reconversion de la congrégation religieuse dans la municipalité régionale de comté de Bellechasse et les écoquartiers pour l’écoquartier de Petit-Saguenay. La recherche montre que les initiatives locales visant la revitalisation des territoires constituent un terreau fertile pour initier ou soutenir la transition socioécologique en proposant des solutions novatrices aux problèmes écologiques. Elles favorisent également une large participation à la gouvernance, ce qui facilite la recherche de compromis et l’acquisition de connaissances. Toutefois, des limites subsistent, notamment en ce qui concerne le potentiel de transformation sociale, qui pourrait être accru par un renforcement du processus réflexif des acteurs. _____________________________________________________________________________ MOTS-CLÉS DE L’AUTEUR : initiatives locales, dévitalisation, transition socioécologique, transformation sociale
