Abstract
Pictured is the "Paul L. Tietjen." In 1907, the American Ship Building Co. out of Cleveland, Ohio, built the “Matthew Andrews.” Ownership of the vessel transferred three times. Kinsman (Marine) Transit Co. of Cleveland owned her from 1907 until 1975. S & E Shipping Corp. (Kinsman Marine Transit Co. Managers), also of Cleveland, had ownership from 1975 until 1978. Finally, Triad Salvage, Inc. of Ashtabula, Ohio took over ownership in 1978. In 1933, the vessel was renamed the “Harry L. Findlay” and again in 1965 the “Paul L. Tietjen.” She encountered many accidents including collisions with “Mesologi,” a Greek freighter in September of 1962 and “Fort William,” a Canadian freighter in August of 1967, and a galley fire in July of 1972. All damages were repaired after the incidents occurred. In 1978, she was taken to Ashtabula for scrapping.
