Se dice que Carmen Maura y Penélope Cruz son chicas Almodóvar, cuando en realidad la ciudad de Madrid también forma parte de este selecto club. Pedro Almodóvar ensalza la capital en gran parte de su filmografía, tal y como se puede ver en ¿Qué he hecho yo para merecer esto!!!, Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios y Julieta, películas que son examinadas a continuación desde el punto de vista arquitectónico. En este trabajo se demuestra la importancia de la ciudad para el director a través del análisis de los espacios más representativos y su simbología, las viviendas y los detalles, así como su relación con los personajes, cuestiones que definen las películas de Almodóvar.
