Abstract
Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena on tehdä kirjallisuuskatsaus populaarimusiikin mahdollisuuksista luovaan ja taiteelliseen ilmaisuun sen kaupallisessa kontekstissa. Taiteen ja kaupallisuuden välinen suhde on nähty ongelmallisena, koska kaupallisen toiminnan on katsottu rajoittavan luovuuteen liittyviä tekijöitä. Populaarimusiikille tämä on ollut erityisen läheinen, koska sen suhde levyteollisuuden kaupallisiin muotoihin on ollut aina tiivis. Työssäni pyrin tarkastelemaan, miten tutkimuskirjallisuudessa tähän suhteeseen on suhtauduttu ja millä tavoin levyteollisuuden kaupallisen luonteen on katsottu vaikuttavan populaarimusiikin luonteeseen.
