Abstract
Opinnäytetyön tilaajana toimi Suomen Diabetesliitto ry. Opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena oli kehittää kokonaisvaltaisesti nuorten vertaistoimintaa Suomen Diabetesliitto ry:ssä. Kohderyhmänä ovat 15-20-vuotiaat tyypin 1 diabeetikot. Työssä käsitellään tyypin 1 diabetesta, nuoruutta ilmiönä sekä näiden kahden asian keskinäistä merkitystä nuorten vertaistoimintaa suunniteltaessa. Opinnäytetyön tavoitteena on tarjota Suomen Diabetesliitto ry:lle konkreettisia kehittämisehdotuksia nuorten vertaistoiminnan kehittämiseksi.\n\nTyössä keskityin selvittämään nuorten tämänhetkisiä kiinnostuksen kohteita, sekä motivaatiota osallistua Suomen Diabetesliitto ry:n järjestämään vertaistoimintaan. Tämä toteutettiin verkkoalustaisella kyselytutkimuksella, jonka tuloksia analysoin sekä määrällisin että laadullisin menetelmin. Pyrin etsimään kehittämiskohteita Suomen Diabetesliitto ry:n vertaistoimintaan käyttämällä benchmarking-menetelmää, jonka tarkoituksena on kyseenalaistaa oman organisaation toimintaa vertailemalla omaa toimintaa muihin organisaatioihin. Tuloksia analysoin laadullisin menetelmin. Benchmarking toteutettiin haastatteluilla Mielenterveyden keskusliiton ja Nuorten Mielenterveysseura Yeesi ry:n kanssa.\n\nTutkimustuloksissa selvisi nuorten tämänhetkisiä mielenkiinnon kohteita, joita pystytään jatkossa hyödyntämään toimintaa suunniteltaessa. Tuloksissa esille nousivat vapaaehtoistyön ja nuorten osallistamisen merkitys. Nuoret olivat kiinnostuneempia osallistumaan toimintaan mieluummin ohjaajina kuin osallistujina. Nuorille on myös tärkeää päästä osallistumaan heille kohdistetun toiminnan suunnitteluun ja toteutukseen.\n\nTämän opinnäytetyön tuloksia pystytään hyödyntämään lähes missä tahansa organisaatiossa, jossa toteutetaan toimintaa nuorille. Opinnäytetyö tarjoaa ajankohtaisen katsauksen nuorten toivomaa toimintaa kohtaan, sekä herättelee ajatuksia ja ideoita oman organisaation kehittämiseksi. Tietopohjalla pystytään perustelemaan vertaistuen merkitystä yksilölle, yhteisölle ja yhteiskunnalle.
