SARS maakt weer eens duidelijk hoe de dreiging van een virus de wereld kan opschudden. SARS is 'hot' en de media staan bol van verhalen uit Azië en Canada. De crisis in Afrika, waar jaarlijks nog altijd miljoenen sterven aan de gevolgen van AIDS en malaria, verdwijnt even naar de Achtergrond. Is SARS dan echt zo bedreigend en is de crisis in Afrika bezworen? Wij ondervragen tropenarts en gezondheidsdeskundige Tom Puls over medische crises op dit continent en de hulp om die crises tegen te gaan. Daarnaast stellen wij de vraag in hoeverre wij ons hier zorgen moeten maken voor ziektes die epidemische vormen aannemen.
