Abstract
Este artículo se centra en la relación existente entre el puerto y el asentamiento, así cómo el\npapel central que el puerto jugó en la conversión del pueblo en una ciudad. A pesar de la importancia\nque dicha ciudad tiene en la historia canadiense, Owen Sound es un buen caso de estudio\npara evaluar el papel de los puertos en la génesis de comunidades así como de la preeminencia del\nfactor humano sobre los excesivamente valorados análisis locacionales.\nThis paper focuses on Owen Sound's relation between the port and the settlement, and how the\nport played a major role in a town rising to the city status. Owen Sound history is, though important\nfor Canadian history may be, an adequate case study of the role of ports in generating communities\nas well as of the preeminence of the human factor over the much emphasized locational analysis.
