Abstract
Tämän tutkielman tavoitteena oli ymmärtää, millaisena opetuksellinen eriyttäminen näyttäytyy sosiaali- ja terveysalan ammatillisen opetuksen arjessa. Eriyttämisellä tarkoitetaan kaikkia niitä keinoja, joiden avulla opetusryhmän tarpeet ja oppijoiden moninaisuus otetaan huomioon. Tutkielma oli luonteeltaan laadullinen ja sen aineistonkeruumenetelmänä hyödynnettiin puolistrukturoitua teemahaastattelua. Kymmenen ammatillisen opettajan haastatteluista muodostunut tutkimusaineisto analysointiin teemoittelun avulla. Sosiaali- ja terveysalan ammatillisten opettajien näkemysten mukaan eriyttäminen oli luovaa opetusmetodien, materiaalien ja yhteistyön hyödyntämistä. Lisäksi opettajat pyrkivät rakentamaan joustavaan arviointiin ja kannustamiseen perustuvan oppimisilmapiirin, sekä mahdollistamaan jokaisen opiskelijan yksilöllisen etenemisen. Eriyttämisen haasteet ja mahdollisuudet ilmenivät sekä opettajien henkilökohtaisina taitoina ja ominaisuuksina, että ryhmätason tekijöitä, jotka olivat pääosin linjassa opettajien esittämien eriyttämistä koskevien kehittämisehdotusten kanssa. Opettajat kaipasivat lisää aikaa, osaamista ja keinoja opiskelijoiden yksilölliseen tukemiseen. Johtopäätöksenä voidaan todeta, että sosiaali- ja terveysalan ammatillisen opetuksen eriyttämisessä keskeisintä oli tiedonkulku. Opiskelijoiden siirtymä peruskoulun strukturoidusta oppimisympäristöstä itseohjautuvuutta painottavaan oppimisympäristöön ei poistanut eriyttämisen tarpeita. Päinvastoin ammatilliset opettajat tarvitsivat tietoa ja työkaluja eritasoisten opiskelijoiden ammatillisen kehittymisen tukemiseen.
