Abstract
Le conseil de la S.H.C. et ses bénévoles ont poursuivi trois objectifs principaux au cours des dernières décennies : premièrement, ils ont encouragé la recherche en histoire, entre autres en diffusant le travail des historiens par le biais du congrès et de la Revue de la Société historique du Canada; deuxièmement, ils ont offert un certain nombre de services connexes aux membres, comme l’attribution de prix, qui récompensent des publications remarquables, et la distribution du Bulletin, qui paraît trois fois l’an et présente des rubriques d’intérêt aux historiens; troisièmement, ils sont intervenus sur la place publique au nom des historiens, pour faire pression auprès du gouvernement et des conseils subventionnaires afin de s’assurer que les politiques publiques servent bien les besoins des membres de la Société et ceux des historiens en général.
