Abstract
S’inscrivant dans la volonté du Ministère des Transports du Québec d’utiliser le béton léger dans des travaux de réparation, mais également pour de nouvelles structures, l’objectif principal de ce projet réside dans l’établissement d’une base scientifique offrant une meilleure compréhension des propriétés clés de ce matériau. Plusieurs volets expérimentaux ont donc été effectués dans le but de caractériser les propriétés mécaniques, le risque de fissuration et les résistances au gel-dégel et à l’écaillage d’un béton fabriqué avec des gros granulats de schiste expansé. Deux paramètres se trouvent au coeur de cette étude : d’une part, la teneur en eau des granulats légers, d’autre part, la quantité d’eau qu’ils relâchent et devant être comptée dans le rapport E/L (MAD). Les résultats expérimentaux de cette étude démontrent la possibilité de fabriquer au Québec un mélange de béton léger avec des propriétés mécaniques et une durabilité au gel satisfaisantes, bien que l’estimation du paramètre MAD soit encore mal maitrisée et ceci, d’autant plus que la teneur en eau effective des GL est élevée.
