Abstract
The article analyzes the creation, formation and functioning of the photo salon of the Bendytski Jewish family in the Ukrainian multicultural city of Pereiaslav, which reflected ethno-cultural processes in Ukraine. It was found that the photographs of the Bendytski’s photo salon from the fund collection of the National Historical and Ethnographic Reserve Pereiaslav are of scientific and artistic value, contain valuable cultural, historical, ethnographic information about the traditional culture and everyday life of the residents of Pereiaslav Region in the last quarter of the 19th - early 20th centuries, and are a source of information for many related sciences (history, ethnography, art history, sociology, anthropology, cultural studies, etc.). It is shown that the photographs are an important source of visual evidence for the study of the local history of the Pereiaslav region and help in the study of ethnocultural processes on the territory of Ukraine during the imperial period. It was found that the presence of these photos in the museum allows to use photographic material as documentary source for various types of research, they can also be popularized in the form of catalogs, used in exhibition projects and other areas of museum activity. It is substantiated that the information potential, the degree of attribution, and the state of preservation of the investigated photos are quite high, and there is also sufficiently detailed accompanying documentation for them. The photographs' authorship, origin, and dating were established, the photographed subjects were partially determined, the circumstances of the photo creation were clarified, and the external features of the photographs and letterheads of the Bendytski’s family photo studio were analyzed. It has been proven that the photos of the Bendytski’s photo salon are a kind of verified photochronicle of the regional history of Ukraine and help to understand the ethnocultural processes of that time and make it possible to use the information obtained to strengthen the national-patriotic education of the citizens of the Ukrainian state and to actively oppose Russian anti-Ukrainian propaganda.
