Les objectifs de notre travail sur la maturation osseuse à partir d une radiographie de la région main-poignet sont la vérification de la validité de l Atlas de Greulich et Pyle (GP) appliquée à une population contemporaine, son amélioration dans une optique perspective médico-légale et l étude de l influence de certains facteurs environnementaux. Nous avons estimé l âge osseux de trois échantillons contemporains : 1372 individus marseillais, 263 enfants québécois et 645 enfants marocains. L atlas de GP, méthode de référence datant des années 1950, est toujours adapté à une population contemporaine. Son utilisation dans un cadre médico-légal doit intégrer la variabilité individuelle, source d imprécision incompressible, sous la forme d une fourchette d estimation que nous avons proposée dans un atlas revisité . La maturation osseuse est un marqueur anthropologique populationnel sous la dépendance de multiples facteurs notamment la corpulence mais aussi le niveau socio-économique.
