Abstract
La chasse au phoque dans l’Atlantique est une activité très controversée et le débat entourant la question est très émotif. L’objectif de cette analyse est d’évaluer la soutenabilité de la chasse au phoque dans l’est du Québec en tenant compte des principes du développement durable. Beaucoup d’information circule via différents médias sur la chasse au phoque et il est difficile pour les gens de déterminer ce qui est exact. D'une part, les groupes contre la chasse au phoque montrent des images très brutales et sanguinaires de la chasse et d’autre part, le gouvernement soutient que cette chasse est effectuée sans cruauté. L’analyse des renseignements disponibles permet de mettre en lumière certaines informations largement diffusées qui ne reflètent pas la réalité et certaines lacunes, ayant trait au respect des critères sociaux de développement durable.
